My new hat-ette

So, I was over at  delia creates   where I got this really cute idea for a hat.  I didn't have the items she called for in her instructions so I went with what I had.  I think it still came out cute, maybe not as cute as Delia's though.  Here's where I went:

Sorry, I didn't get a real model to wear it.  Will refused, and so did I.  Just realized I forgot the stem, I guess when I picked this one the stem didn't come with it. 
My son Will was making light sabers while I made this little hat-ette, then we went for a walk in the neighborhood.

I love burning bushes in the fall, ours always seems to be late in turning red, but it's catching up.

Reminds me of Christmas and how life should be

I just thought this was interesting.  Will did not share my enthusiasm for stopping to take this picture.  He thought I was weird.

Back to childhood

Today I took my son Will to my parents for a short visit.  While there I asked if my parents would watch Will while I took a walk out back.  My dad was skeptical about the walk because of recent rains making it very wet, but I was adamant.  I went out and relived a little but of my childhood.  This little knoll was probably the most popular place for me to play and dream. 

 Walking past that I found the tote road, the beginning of the rest of my playground.  During the winter I would cross country ski, but the summer was a time of discovery.

The ferns were always so lovely when making my bed in secret places.

 And the springy moss made a fine mattress.

 I found unexpected beauty everywhere.

 And the trail leads on.......

Nature Walk

Summer is a hard time to make the time to "get back to nature".  My son has a difficult time being outside, also with changes in the routine of our day.  He has gotten better at being flexible and more adventurous, but it is still a struggle.  We were able to go on a few walks, now I need to get him to slow down and enjoy the views, and the adventure of finding the unique and beautiful while out and about.  (He gets frustrated with me for not "keeping up")

One of the places we went was Two Lights.  There is always something beautiful to find there.....

 I couldn't believe all the types of mushrooms I found along the way...

 There's beauty even in the simple act of play....

Then there were other walks that were just as beautiful.

I look forward to finding more beauty in this wonderful place we call home.  Where will you find beauty?
